When quarantine started, Aurelia and Mihaela, both medical students (2nd and final year), found themselves isolated in overcrowded, rural environments, with limited access to the internet. In the midst of the chaos, a light went on, and, realizing they attended the same medical school, UMF in Iasi, we worked with their U.S. mentors to facilitate renting an apartment in the city, which they have shared since the beginning of May. The new living conditions allow them to focus solely on their studies. They have achieved high marks and have become the best of friends and a source of support for each other. Thank you Diana Girnita M.D. and Simona Bot M.D.—this was a dream come true during these grim times.
In Mihaela’s words:
“I thought I’d send you an email about how we are, which is me and Aurelia. We have been in the apartment for almost two weeks and we can say that this is all we wanted at the moment. We adjusted from the first, without any problems. We get along well, we cook together, when we take breaks from learning, we stay together, we talk to each other, we go shopping for necessities together (rarely, not often, with this situation). Already, we feel at home!! And everything is fine with the internet, we have no problems. We consider that we are ready for the final exams, because we have the necessary conditions for learning; all we need is health and focus. We want to thank you for thinking of us and for helping us in these conditions. We hug each of you, with love and longing!!”
