This is always a very hard category because the majority of the relationships between our students and mentors are remarkable, unique, engaged and very alive. We chose to highlight Attila and Ildiko and will let the student’s testimony speak for itself:
Life is hard for a child from a children’s home. He has to solve all his problems, to develop his skills on his own and, above all, he has to be aware in order to build a good career. I am such a child. It was hard for me to get here; my parents weren’t with me. I was admitted to college on my own; I moved into the dormitory on my own; I made all the important and unimportant decisions on my own. However, at times I felt lonely, distrustful. I needed advice and care.
Fortunately, I received a mentor and I developed a very good relationship with her. I am very grateful because I have someone to ask advice from, I have someone who takes care for my development, who gives advice in any situation. As children we need emotional support; without it, it is impossible for us to go through the hardships of life, to notice that we have opportunities in life and to be confident. Through the Blue Heron Foundation I have received a great deal of support from my mentor, Magyari Ildikó, who always helps me with great pleasure, takes care to make me feel safe, gives useful advice even during the pandemic, when I feel desperate. Since I met her, I no longer feel that I do not know what is good for me, I have a supporter with whom I can share my joy and sadness. Being a Blue Heron Fellow, I receive a lot of financial help but even more importantly, emotional support. I know that in the future my relationship with Ildikó will be even better and we will be friends for life.
