At the annual Blue Heron Foundation’s Salon on May 4th in New York City we had the opportunity to thank both donors and mentors, as well as welcome new supporters. It was an evening of cocktails, conversation, and, of course, so much more!
I am very grateful to Alex Bacu, our East Coast VP of Community Outreach and Fundraising, for helming the annual Blue Heron Foundation’s Salon at The Players Club, a private establishment redolent with history. It was an aptly named venue, since the evening was all about thanking the various players who contribute so much to Blue Heron. A few of us met half an hour earlier because Alex had arranged a special tour of Gramercy Park, the only private park in Manhattan. Our event always galvanizes the Romanian American community and this year was no exception. Approximately sixty people attended and we had the opportunity to meet the high caliber mentors Alex is able to attract for our students, many of whom work for companies that match donations — another reason to celebrate! A highlight was a Skype conversation with Monica, a Blue Heron Scholarship student who is in medical school in Romania. Monica told us how the scholarship has transformed her life in ways she dreamed of, but never thought were possible.
